Summary

In 2021 MECSOL received, unloaded and installed a 180-ton injection molding machine at the Phillips plant in Apodaca, Nuevo León. Working through AMISA Group International, we finished the job inside a hard three-day window, leveled to spec and with the customer's operation uninterrupted.

The problem

Bringing in new manufacturing equipment leaves no room for improvisation. The Phillips plant in Apodaca needed to safely unload and install a 180-ton injection molding machine — 7,150 kg gross — arriving as an import inside a closed 20SD container. The work meant pulling it out in tight quarters without scratching or damaging the machine, uncrating it, and walking that mass to its final spot in the production floor layout.

All of it had to happen inside a continuous three-day window. A bad plan on the drag, or an error in the bearing geometry, could do irreversible damage to the machine or its internals. The job called for a contractor who knows heavy rigging and can hold tight tolerances on leveling and alignment, so the machine would not vibrate, drift out or wear early once it started running.

What MECSOL did

To protect the asset and get a clean install, MECSOL kept the whole job under one roof, coordinating with our customer AMISA Group International. We put our technicians directly on the plant floor and took control of the work.

Rather than split the services across outside crews, we ran our own continuous protocol. We started by extracting and unloading the machine from the 20SD container, using our own rigging plan and high-capacity forklifts — a 15,000-lb unit with a 6,000-lb backup. Once the machine was out and fully uncrated, we set it temporarily on the plant floor.

From there our specialists ran the critical work: precision leveling and alignment, which is what makes the machine transfer its forces into the base the way it should. To give the customer full traceability on the condition of the equipment on arrival and after installation, the entire process was documented visually, step by step.

Scope executed

  • Location and period: Phillips plant, Apodaca, Nuevo León (2020–2021).
  • Machine installed: 180-ton injection molding machine, 542 cm long × 163 cm wide × 221 cm high, 7,150 kg.
  • Receiving: controlled unloading from a 20SD container and complete uncrating.
  • Lifting equipment: a 15,000-lb forklift and a 6,000-lb forklift on site, plus specialized tooling.
  • Mechanical work: temporary positioning, geometric alignment and precision leveling.
  • Schedule: completed inside the three-day window as required.
  • Documentation: technical file with more than 335 photographs of the job.

Result

The 180-ton machine was unloaded, uncrated, placed and aligned to spec inside the three days plant management had. By using the right lifting capacity and qualified technicians, MECSOL kept the customer's asset clear of any structural risk. The Phillips plant took the new equipment into its operation mechanically ready to run, with no unplanned interruptions.
